Online Classes with The Stitchery Studio
NEW!! Embroidery Classes online
I love a workshop and started teaching basic embroidery because I felt there was a bit of a gap in the market. There were several very talented artists holding sewing workshops but the delegate really needed a bit of experience with a needle and thread in the first place. I remember going to a (very lovely) workshop where the teacher laid out an impressive array of threads, passed around the linen and told everyone to ‘stitch some flowers’. Fine if you’ve fashioned one or two French knot hyacinths before but pretty intimidating if your needlework experience doesn’t stretch past sewing a button on.
Once you have mastered a few basic stitches you can be well on your way to creating beautiful pieces of textile art. I’m not talking The Royal School of Needlework where perfection, consistency and attention to detail are key. But you can create very pretty simple floral motifs, stitching them onto bags, lavender sachets and other little gifts to show someone you truly care. Needlework isn’t a talent you are born with but a skill you can learn, made all the more easy with the right tools, good lighting and a little bit of quiet time to concentrate.
There is something so restful and so comforting about curling up on a Saturday afternoon with your needle and thread, the radio chattering to itself and a mug of tea steaming beside you. We all need a bit of quiet time to ourselves, a bit of peaceful reflection, and the rhythmic motion of drawing thread through fabric is somehow meditative with the benefit of having achieved something beautiful at the end of it.
Whilst nothing beats meeting up in person for a workshop; gathering around the table, meeting new people and seeing new things, it isn’t always possible to do so. Maybe the journey is too difficult, the timings don’t work or you’d really rather learn at your own pace. (Lots of my stitchers produce very little in class and find it easier to concentrate on their stitching at home without distration.)
I am so excited to now launch The Stitchery Studio online - an online learning platform where I will provide e-courses for embroidery and hand-sewing. You can work at your own pace, in your own time and really zoom into the screen to master those stitches. There will be bonus projects, free tutorials and live gatherings to make sure we all feel connected.
EMBROIDER AN HEIRLOOM CHRISTMAS STOCKING
My first workshop starts on 1st December 2020; join me to embroider an heirloom Christmas stocking. Pre-recorded videos will share detailed instructions for all of the necessary stitches as well as a start-to-finish embroidery session of the entire design. We will decorate and personalise the stocking and I will show you how to sew your stocking together using the sewing machine. At the end of all of that I will show you some quick and easy little Christmas projects, if you are enjoying yourself just too much to stop.
Doors to the classroom open on 1st December 2020; when you purchase the course you will receive a short film from me showing you a few bits and pieces that you might want to gather before class. I am really excited to stitch with you and hope to see you there! Click here to learn more.
