Did you know

…..that some species of honeysuckle have a natural anti-histamine effect? Or that patients were flogged with nettles in medieval Europe to cure arthritis?

If you are interested in pressed flowers, folklore, medicinal plants and, of course, embroidery then our 2025 subscription project is for you!

For The Stitcher’s Herbarium, each month we will stitch a flower (or group of flowers/plants) using threads of soft, faded colours onto a variety of beautiful fabrics reminiscent of a found and treasured herbarium from Victorian England. Encompassing the romance and nostalgia of a pressed flower, our Stitchery project for 2025 will be gentle, relaxing, interesting and inspiring with a number of suggested creative avenues for you to explore.

This is first and foremost a hand-embroidery subscription meaning that the main project you receive each month will be the type of embroidery you have come to expect and love from The Stitchery. Simple hand-embroidery stitches with a few effective techniques thrown in to enable you to create a piece of work that you can be proud of. Something that can be stitched in a few afternoons in beautiful solitude or with friends, nothing too taxing but enough to keep your interest before the next kit arrives.

Creative Extras

Bind a keepsake book: In previous years we have included a little postcard of the embroidery for you to keep or send on. This year you will receive the paper pages to collect each month and bind into your own little book (with full guidance and tutorials available online to help you). The book will include interesting snippets of information from the monthly embroideries as well as recipes, folk tales and mini artworks. You are encouraged to add your own pages (and advised how) but you do not need to do this in order to create a sturdy little book by the end of the project, the pages provided by The Stitchery will be more than enough.

Share in an online community: We always do a pre-recorded online video to share the techniques required for each project and this year we will share ideas for an extra craft project with each video such a hand-stitched patchwork project, papercraft or clay sculpture (for example). Obviously in our first month we will share our tips for pressing flowers.

This year we will run a live creative work-along each month on zoom where we can tune in and work on our stitching together whilst chatting about our favourite books, sewing supplies, TV programmes and recipes. Basically a mini online stitch club!

Optional Extra

This year, there is also the option to add an exclusive pdf cross stitch pattern each month; a simple text-based piece of stitching within a beautiful border, designed to reflect the qualities of the historical samplers we love so much. Designed by Sarah (of The Stitchery Sisters) packs of evenweave (or Aida) plus hand-dyed thread packs will be made available in the new year if you wish to buy them but materials will be easily available from your favourite local suppliers too.

In order to keep on top of creation and despatch deadlines, we are only offering our 2025 subscription to a limited number of stitchers on a first come, first served basis. Annual subscriptions are open now, offering good savings. Following annual subscriptions we will open a limited number of monthly subscriptions in January triggering your automatic monthly payment.

We hope you can join us as we look forward to another beautiful year of stitching together.
